Referral and Networking Guide.

Start useful conversations and ask for guidance with confidence.

Networking is about learning from people and building professional relationships. A referral can help someone discover your application, but it never guarantees an interview or a job.

01

Start with a relevant connection

Reach out to alumni, people whose work interests you, or professionals you meet through a community. Read their profile and mention a specific shared interest or relevant piece of work.

02

Make the first message easy to answer

Introduce yourself briefly, explain why you are reaching out, and ask one focused question. For example: “I am exploring entry-level analytics roles. Which skills helped you most in your first year?” Respect their time.

03

Ask for a referral thoughtfully

Find a specific, active role and check your eligibility first. Share the official role link and a concise explanation of your fit. Ask whether they would be comfortable referring you, and make it easy to decline.

04

Follow up with respect

One polite follow-up after a reasonable interval is enough. Thank people for their time regardless of the outcome. Never offer payment for a referral or send repeated messages after someone declines.
